LINK THREE

1. Using the same color as the first link, pick up 12 beads, leaving a 3-4 inch tail to weave in later. Pass the needle through the first loop of the previous link, from back to front, and then through all 12 beads again to form a loop.

2. After pulling the loop tight, tie a square knot. Then pass the needle back through the first 6 beads in the loop. Turn the loop so that the thread is coming out of a spine and is positioned as below. Note that the thread and spine are behind the previous link.

3. Again, before positioning the loop for the next step, make sure that you are passing through the beads that fall to the back of the links as you hold the loop with the knot at the bottom.

4. Pick up 8 beads, pass the needle through the second loop of the previous link, again going from back to front. Then pass the needle through the spine of the first loop and through the first 6 beads of the second loop. The spine between the first and second loops should be behind the spine of the previous link.

5. Pick up 8 beads, pass the needle through the third loop of the previous link, again going from back to front. Then pass the needle through the spine of the second loop and through the first 6 beads of the third loop. The spine between the second and third loops should be in front of the spine of the previous link.

6. Pick up 8 beads, pass the needle through the fourth loop of the previous link, again going from back to front. Then pass the needle through the spine of the third loop and through the first 6 beads of the fourth loop. The spine between the third and fourth loops should be behind the spine of the previous link.

Continue adding loops, alternating the spines from front to back, until you reach the last loop in the second link. Finish off the threads as you did for the first link. You should now have three links, interlocked as shown below.

Continue adding links, alternating between the directions for LINK TWO and the directions for LINK THREE, until the piece is the desired length.
